How To Build Trust with Real Patients

Every September, Snow celebrates Patient Appreciation Month, dedicated to thanking the patients who share their experiences, perspectives, and time with us. There is no single way to make an impact. From sharing a personal story to supporting a fellow Ambassador or exploring opportunities to get involved, every contribution helps make our community stronger.
It started with a Memorial Garden, created to honor the Ambassadors, and grew from there. Patients are at the heart of what Snow does, and the team wanted to be intentional about sharing that appreciation, to honor the work and the patients behind it. CEO Blake Shewey says, “This annual initiative was chosen deliberately as a moment to ground the whole team and highlight the work and patients we care deeply about.”
While Snow loves bringing the month to life in personal, meaningful ways, the appreciation behind it isn't seasonal. It shows up in how the team recognizes every engagement, and in relationships with patients that outlast the contracts themselves.
Why a relationship, not a transaction
At Snow, engagement is built from the very first conversation with a patient through every phase of the relationship that follows. Patients are brought in early and given real input into how their story gets shaped and shared through a genuine, collaborative process. Their stories and insights show up in live and virtual events, advocacy initiatives, and digital communities that give patients room to connect with each other. It shows up in Advocacy and Recruitment, and in patient support, where Snow's behavioral scientists, learning strategists and content creators, alongside a team of Health Educators, build experiences that are truly real. The throughline is that the patient's needs always come first, and their perspectives stay honest from beginning to end.
Perhaps the strongest measure of a meaningful patient partnership is what happens after a program ends. Many patients, caregivers, and former Patient Ambassadors choose to stay connected, whether through social communities, future opportunities, or conversations with Snow employees. Some have shared their stories in person with team members, creating connections that extend well beyond a single engagement. Those relationships are not built through transactions. They grow from trust, respect, and a shared commitment to keeping the patient perspective at the center.
Why this matters for DTC marketers
According to the Edelman Trust Barometer, pharmaceutical companies remain near the bottom of institutional trust rankings globally, a position they have held for most of the last decade. Every campaign, every patient story, every piece of content is competing against that baseline. That is especially true now, as AI content creates a sea of sameness. People are craving what's real, and authenticity has become the premium brands must pay to earn that trust back.
It takes courage for a patient to share a diagnosis, a treatment journey, or a hard chapter of their life with strangers, knowing it may end up in front of thousands of people. Patients do it because they believe their story might help someone else feel less alone, enable them to ask their doctor a better question, or simply see themselves represented honestly. Snow's Patient Appreciation Month is a chance to pause and elevate the bravery behind every perspective that patients choose to share with us, and the journey that got them there.
