Community Champion, Henry County Medical Center
Gina Matlock has dedicated the past 25 years serving rural community members. Her career began in healthcare serving as a social worker for Baptist Home Health & Hospice in Huntingdon, TN. Following that position, she transitioned to education where she spent 21 years as a Senior Instructor at the Tennessee College of Applied Technology in Paris, TN. During her time at TCAT she also served as Lead Advisor for the campus SkillsUSA chapter. Now, her path has come full circle returning to healthcare as Community Champion.
The Community Champion role is provided through a Delta Region Community Health Systems grant. Within this role, Matlock is tasked with assessing local health data, identifying needs, and coordinating a collaborative effort with varying community partners to meet the needs and create an overall shift towards healthier living. This position requires a close relationship with community members, community partners, administration, and marketing. During her first two years with the grant, Matlock has been a part of various marketing strategies addressing population health such as Heart Health, Telehealth, Covid-19 Immunization campaign, and Behavioral Health.
She is active in the community serving as Coordinator for the Women’s Health Advisory Council and Board Member for the Henry County Prevention Coalition and Young Life. Also, Matlock works closely with the UT Extension Agency, Tomorrow’s Hope Pregnancy Center, and Henry County School System.
She attended Middle Tennessee State University earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Family and Consumer Sciences with a minor in Psychology. Matlock lives in Paris, TN with her husband and three children. She enjoys cooking and traveling.
