Ad Award Winners Named at the DTC National Conference

Tuesday, 21 April 2009, 02:15 PM

WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 21, 2009) – Delegates at the 2009 DTC National Conference selected two Eli Lilly and Co. ads – a TV ad for Cymbalta and a print ad for Evista – as the best direct-to-consumer campaigns of last year in a vote that was held here last week as part of the DTC Perspectives’ National Conference. The 2009 Ad Award winners were announced at the annual awards dinner on April 16. Executives from across the pharmaceutical industry attended this year’s DTC National and the Advertising Awards dinner at which winners in 11 advertising categories were recognized for their 2008 campaigns.

Merck & Co. also was a big winner and received seven awards overall, with Gardasil winning four of those awards. Other brands receiving multiple awards included Crestor, Cymbalta, Mirapex and Natrelle. Among the companies receiving multiple Ad Awards were AstraZeneca (including three Gold awards for Best CRM/eCRM campaign, Best Branded Web Site and Best Integrated campaign), Boehringer Ingelheim, Eli Lilly, Shire, and Allergan. (See table below for a complete listing of all Ad Award winners.)

Delegates at the DTC National Conference determined the winners for both Best Branded Television and Best Branded Print campaigns.

Winners in the nine other categories were selected prior to the conference by a panel of independent judges. This year’s expert judging panel included: Mark Bard, President & Co-Founder, Manhattan Research, Frank Chipman, Vice President, Millward Brown; Fred Church, Vice President, Ipsos Vantis; Mark Einhorn, Executive Vice President, The Pretesting Company; Marc Jaffe, Sr. Account Service Executive, VMS Info; David Kweskin, SVP, CGS, Brand & Communications, TNS and Fariba Zamaniyan, Sr. Vice President, Nielsen IAG.

The DTC National Advertising Awards are intended to recognize the marketing teams that develop insightful and impactful communication programs that are within regulatory guidelines. “These awards were designed to recognize communication excellence in a field with multiple constituencies, varying needs and significant communication challenges,” Bob Ehrlich, chief executive of DTC Perspectives Inc., noted.

The June issue of DTC Perspectives Magazine will feature coverage of the DTC National Conference and profile each of the DTC National Advertising Award winners.
